Alpine are the community management masters on the F1 grid.

As community management becomes more and more important on socials those teams who truly integrate themselves into their communities are going to thrive.

Personally, I think Alpine is doing it best this 2024 off season.

Every F1 team replies to comments and such here and there - but that’s not effective community management. The more you reply to fans, showing they’re being seen and heard, the more loyal they’re going to be to you.

Not to mention the higher you’ll come up in their social feeds - algorithms were built to favor commenting - it is SOCIAL media after all.

So, why is Alpine so good at it?

First, they’re interacting on conversationally based platforms. X and Threads. With Threads becoming available more globally recently, there’s been an influx of F1 fans on the platform, developing more positive communities not only in F1 but all motorsports

Most F1 teams have a threads account, but Alpine is truly making conversation.

Alpine not only replies often, but their replies are relevant to the conversation. They reply with:

📲 extremely well placed pop culture references

📲 important information

📲 personalized messages

All of this ADDS VALUE to the conversation.

Most teams in any sport will reply with “thanks” to fans or some emojis at another team. Replying to other teams isn’t community management, replying to fans is.

Alpine not only replies to comments really well, but they have done so well that replies on one platform are screenshotted and posted to the other platforms to further a discussion. For your REPLY content to be that good is truly amazing. Typically the only replies that get posted across platforms are drivers replying to each other or to fans.

My personal favorite recently was Alpine replying to a Threads user and giving him a quick and very clever yet funny nickname after replying to their post. The reply is featured in the image below.

It was short, simple, yet incredibly well placed. It shows fans there's a real person behind the account, not just some mysterious brand.

Replies like this are off the cuff and unpolished, showing the care for entrenching themselves into their community and being part of conversations. It makes fans who perhaps didn't care about Alpine before want to follow because the team is giving as much as they get.

Great content isn't enough anymore. It's important, but it's not everything. Your community wants to engage with YOU.

They follow you because they care about YOU.

.....and they want to feel as though you care about them too.

So, as more teams and brands strive to develop stronger communities on social media in 2024, take a page from Alpine’s book. Make your replies ADD VALUE to the conversation. Your fans will be more engaged and even more loyal than before.
